Finland aims to be carbon neutral by 2035. The new Climate Change Act entered into force in July 2022.
Each government draws up an energy and climate strategy.
The plan is drawn up during each electoral term, and it includes an action programme to reduce emissions in the non-emissions trading sectors, i.e. the effort-sharing sector.
In accordance with the Government Programme, sectoral low-carbon roadmaps have been drawn up in cooperation with companies and organisations in the relevant sectors.
Achieving the target of a carbon neutral Finland by 2035 requires emission reductions also in the land use sector and strengthening carbon sinks and reservoirs.
